Tips on how to update your home
How do I update my home? As a designer I get asked this question almost every week. I have come up with some easy tips for you and have broken them down into a few quick and easy Essential Elements.
Fresh Flowers are always ideal. If you are like me, you love flowers. Adding fresh flowers or a plant is a great way to make your space feel fresh, finding good fake flowers can also work. Flowers give off an organic feel that can really brighten up a room. They add life to a room. Flowers can complement or can be used as a focal point in a room. Either way, putting flowers in an elegant vase will absolutely class up your space making it feel welcoming and it’s a great way to add a pop of color.
Hang Curtains High – I preach about this one all day long. If you have read some of my past blogs you know I can’t stress this one enough. So here is the logic behind hanging your curtains higher is that they will give the illusion of higher ceilings, making your space appear grander and larger. With the right curtains and height, you amp up the sophistication in your space x10!Either pre made drapery or Custom made Drapery always look better when hung High. See my photo as an example.
Paint Your Walls – This is usually my first step when anyone asks me how to update their home fast, easy and less expensive. Even just painting one wall the right color or shade can depict the feeling of the room. You guys know I am a huge pintrest fan. I wanted to share with you a few pins I have saved for trending colors right now.
Switch Out Lamp Shades – this is a cute and easy fix to change the look of a room in a subtle way. You can change the look of your space with modern or traditional shade. It’s also a more cost effective way to decorate instead of replacing the entire lamp. I happen to do a quick walk threw of Lowell’s this morning after my work out. They have a great selection of lamp shades. Differently a great source.
Use Vertical Space Wisely-
I can’t stress this enough. Come up with a clear purpose for your vertical space, whether, it’s going to be an organized storage space, collage wall, or a place to hang framed artwork.
I hope some of my tips are helpful.
Until next time, keep the design passion alive.
